Absorptive filters are created with special optical glass that absorbs near infra-red radiation. Reflection type filters are short-pass interference filters that reflect infra-red light with high-efficiency. The absorptive filters are usually useful for CMOS cameras as the reflective IR filters are employed for CMOS cameras. As modern CCTV camera and web cams and so on all have a broad visible spectrum, they are able to all see IR light to some extent. This should be blocked to let correct reproduction of color from the camera, but it should not be blocked to let the camera to see IR light for night vision.
